Calculate SHA-256

Get a file fingerprint and compare it with a reference.

Or drop it here. Up to 50 MiB per file.

Paste 64 hexadecimal characters to compare them with your file.

The fingerprint identifies the file bytes. It does not prove authorship or truth. A received fingerprint is only useful if you trust its source.

Up to 50 MiB per file. An expected fingerprint must contain 64 hexadecimal characters.

How to calculate or check a SHA-256 fingerprint

  1. Choose a file or try the example.
  2. If you have a reference fingerprint, paste it. Calculate your copy’s fingerprint in your browser.
  3. Check the result and copy or download the 64-character fingerprint.
What does a match demonstrate?

Your copy has the same SHA-256 fingerprint as the reference. This does not identify its author, confirm its truth or establish a date.

Why can identical-looking documents differ?

We calculate over all bytes, including metadata. Renaming does not change a fingerprint; editing, exporting or adding a mark can.

Is this fingerprint registered?

No. Calculation and comparison are local. For a public verification link and version history, register the file using your account.

Have two copies rather than a fingerprint?

Compare the files directly without copying their fingerprints by hand.
